Schimenti Construction is thrilled to have built the world’s largest H&M store, opened May 2015 at the intersection of Broadway and 34th Street.
The flagship H&M is located in iconic Herald Center, the home of many preminent national and international retailers. Occupying almost 63,000 square feet on four floors, the structure boasts several eye-catching features. Among them is a 61-foot by 45-foot terrazzo tile wall that runs from the ceiling of the cellar level to the ceiling of the third floor. The first floor atrium features a 26-foot by 16-foot LCD viewing screen, while the second floor atrium is highlighted by a stunning 21-foot-tall Rain of Light chandelier. A custom illuminated façade wraps around the exterior on 33rd and 34th Streets and Sixth Avenue.
As with all our jobs, our people devised creative ways to accommodate some unique challenges—in this case, we needed to create scaffolding over the existing escalators to create the three-story terrazzo tile wall.
