Citibank is a global leader in banking, financial services, and wealth management, with 4,000 branches in 42 countries. Schimenti was enlisted to build Citi’s newest “Community Hub” in the Upper West Side of Manhattan by relocating the existing branch to the ground floor of a new 22-story residential building. The 5,200 square feet space was intentionally designed to provide customers with a sense of comfort and personalized experiences – featuring a 24 HR ATM vestibule, a banking hall, two semi-private meeting spaces enclosed by wooden birdcage-style coverings, and two private rooms concealed with frosted glass. The new design incorporates custom millwork, backsplashes, and a MultiTaction community feature wall.
The project presented a lineup of unique challenges, including coordinating the construction of the new building while supporting Citi’s vision of transforming into a modern, simpler, more efficient bank. Preparing the site for owner vendors also posed a challenge, as procurement items required coordination, given the unique materials required.
Meticulous management and supervision were necessary to execute high-end finishes, digital integration, and millwork, which required harmonious collaboration between Project Management and Operations teams. Despite these challenges, the project was completed successfully, resulting in a welcoming hospitality feel for Citi customers and the community.
