Petco, a renowned pet health and wellness industry leader with 1,500+ nationwide locations, opened its latest flagship store in Union Square, NYC. The new store features a wide variety of pet merchandise, a grooming salon with self-service options, a curated merchandise assortment, a full-service Vetco Total Care veterinary hospital, and a working kitchen for on-site production of JustFoodForDogs.

Schimenti skillfully transformed the three-story 25,000 sq ft space, blending the classic elements and architectural charm of New York City and featuring exposed brick walls and herringbone wood floors in the landmark, domed-roof building. One of the more striking features was the construction of a feature stair that harmonized with the surrounding floors, combining cement steps with cast iron risers for an elegant touch. Schimenti also implemented a comprehensive architectural metal storefront system and reinforced steel structures to support the aquarium.

The construction process encountered challenges, such as coordinating with utility companies and navigating through the bustling area of Union Square. To overcome these obstacles, Schimenti adopted proactive measures, including early planning, anticipating potential issues, and formulating contingency plans. Through diligent coordination and effective communication, clear channels were established to ensure a smooth construction process.
