Schimenti Construction delivered a 38,000 SF Target within a newly constructed high-rise development in Journal Square, Jersey City. The project began with early access to the space while the base building and surrounding site remained under active construction, requiring close coordination with the developer across the tower, parking, and exterior areas. This phased approach allowed the team to initiate planning and early installation activities in parallel with ongoing base building work.
The buildout required integrating Target’s systems into the high-rise infrastructure, including upgraded fire protection and a complex refrigeration system extending from upper floors down to the retail level. Coordination was essential to align with base-building systems and sequencing, particularly because portions of the work were tied to turnover milestones. Through early planning and field-led coordination, the team advanced critical installations and maintained progress as access expanded.
Additional complexity came from specialized refrigeration cases that required field modifications to accommodate structural constraints. The team worked closely with the client and vendors to adapt these systems in real time, maintaining momentum while aligning with the space’s limitations. Early coordination drawings and proactive field execution allowed key work to proceed ahead of final system changeovers, streamlining installation once full access was granted.
Throughout the project, Schimenti partnered with the client, developer, and trade partners to navigate evolving conditions and maintain progress. The result is a modern, high-performing urban retail store that anchors a growing mixed-use development and supports the continued transformation of Journal Square.
