Highlights from Construction Safety Week 2025

At Schimenti, safety isn’t just a policy. Safety drives our culture and is the foundation of every job. Throughout the week, we recognized that safety is a shared responsibility that depends on teamwork, clear communication, and daily accountability on every jobsite.

This year’s national theme, All In Together: Plan. Own. Commit., guided our focus each day. We explored what it means to plan with precision, identify high energy hazards, own your part, engage and empower team members, and commit to excellence. Through stand-downs, hands-on training, company-wide contests, and employee spotlights, we reinforced the idea that building safely is never a solo effort—it takes all of us, working together.

“At Schimenti, we believe safety is a collective responsibility,” said Matthew Gerstung, Director of Corporate Safety.

Every person on our team, regardless of title, role, or experience, plays a critical part in shaping the safety of our jobsites and the success of our projects. Our culture is built on the idea that safety excellence doesn’t belong to leadership alone. It’s a shared commitment that comes to life through the everyday choices of every team member, from new hires to seasoned professionals.

Here’s a recap of Safety Week 2025 at Schimenti:

The team shared their perspectives on the week’s themes

This year, Schimenti featured a trading card-style campaign highlighting employees from different departments across the company. Each card included personal stats, years in construction, favorite project, reasons for working safely, and quotes aligned to the day’s safety theme. The campaign highlighted the teamwork and individual accountability that drive our safety culture forward.

Daily stand-downs were held across our active job sites

The week’s safety themes were discussed on-site daily through toolbox talks and on-site conversations. Stand-downs were held across all active job sites, providing time for teams and trade partners to review key risks, reinforce expectations, and align on hazard awareness and prevention measures.

Training and demos were conducted throughout the week

Industry partners Milwaukee Tool and Werner Co. joined select job sites to lead training and safety education sessions. Werner Co. conducted fall protection demonstrations at multiple Schimenti sites, with one filmed at our active Target project in West Orange, NJ. These sessions showed how proper equipment and planning reduce risk during elevated work and provided practical reinforcement of high-risk hazard awareness and control strategies.

We brought a sense of competition to our teams and their families

Schimenti also held two company-wide contests to reinforce safety culture beyond the job site. The Children’s Coloring Contest invited kids up to age 14, from families and friends of employees, to illustrate what safety means to them. The top three entries in each age group received prizes. The Safety Snapshot Contest encouraged field teams to submit photos of individuals working safely. Winning entries reflected strong safety habits and the day-to-day actions that define our jobsites.

Thank you for your commitment to working safe every day

Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s Safety Week. Your daily commitment to safety strengthens our teams, protects our people, and sets the standard across every job.
