Schimenti is proud to share that SKIMS NYC has been named this year’s Retail Renovation of the Year by VMSD Magazine. This marks the second consecutive year a Schimenti-built project has received this honor, following last year’s win for Athletic Propulsion Labs (APL) in SoHo.
VMSD’s Retail Renovation of the Year award celebrates physical retail environments that redefine the shopping experience through innovative design and craftsmanship. Submitted by architecture firm RDC and designed by Rafael de Cárdenas, the SKIMS flagship represents a bold evolution for the brand and a showcase of Schimenti’s expertise in luxury retail construction.
Located on New York City’s iconic Fifth Avenue, the project included a full interior demolition, complete MEP system replacement, and the buildout of four levels dedicated to sales areas and back-of-house operations. Guided by the vision of Kim Kardashian and co-founder Jens Grede, the flagship embodies the brand’s philosophy of luxury through minimalism, translating SKIMS’ signature monochromatic aesthetic into a physical experience.
Inside, shoppers are welcomed by a striking 15-foot-tall sculpture by Vanessa Beecroft, anchoring a design defined by curved walls, soft lighting, and a neutral color palette. Rounded-edge fixtures and Corian displays create a seamless flow, emphasizing the brand’s commitment to comfort, inclusivity, and visual harmony throughout. The result is a refined environment that fully captures the essence of the SKIMS brand.
