Athletic Propulsion Labs (APL), the luxury performance footwear brand founded by brothers Adam and Ryan Goldston, set out to create the world’s most exquisite retail store. Their vision came to life through a partnership with Schimenti, resulting in a flagship boutique built in the fashion-forward SoHo district of New York City. Spanning 3,800 square feet, the amphitheater-shaped boutique represents APL’s second-ever location and is a testament to meticulous craftsmanship and creation.
Noteworthy features of the beautifully crafted space include custom clay-based artisan plaster adorning the walls, Italian-imported travertine flooring that exudes timeless beauty, and custom displays imported from Italy. The vanity rooms are a clear standout, with their captivating design featuring rare natural onyx stones that Ryan Goldston searched the world to find, encompassing a range of colors and brilliantly designed to represent each of the five boroughs. Each element was thoughtfully curated to reflect APL’s relentless commitment to its vision.
The project had several unique challenges, including redesigning the ceiling support due to an existing terracotta structure, unforeseen customs delays for crucial millwork, intricate design with extreme curves and angles, and precise lighting installation under an inaccessible stretch fabric covering. Thanks to Schimenti’s expertise, solutions were identified for each obstacle, from creative ceiling support design to communicating with customs and meticulous carpentry work to execute intricate design details.
After 28 weeks of construction, “The World of APL” stands as a testament to collaboration, innovation, and craftsmanship. It transcends being just a retail space, artfully designed to embody New York’s vibrant spirit’s essence while offering a sanctuary for style and luxury.
