Schimenti Construction partnered with SKIN1004 to deliver the brand’s first and only U.S. flagship store in SoHo, New York. Spanning approximately 9,900 SF, the project transformed an existing retail space into a highly customized flagship environment. What began as a limited white-box scope quickly evolved into a collaborative design-assist effort, requiring extensive coordination to support the client’s vision and introduce the brand’s first physical location in the United States.

The project involved a comprehensive renovation of the building’s interior envelope to support a highly customized millwork package featuring sculptural forms inspired by natural valleys and eroded landscapes. A continuous system of curved wood millwork serves as product display, seating, and customer interaction space while guiding visitors through the flagship. Expansive mirrored wall surfaces were incorporated throughout the store to visually extend the interior and create a canyon-like effect within the narrow SoHo footprint. Integrated lighting elements and three custom luminous ceiling cloud installations enhance the space and draw attention to key architectural features throughout the store.

As construction progressed, existing structural conditions revealed that the building could not support the weight of the planned millwork and architectural elements. Working closely with the engineer through daily site coordination and field reviews, the team developed solutions that included foundation reinforcement, expansion of the concrete slab, and additional structural steel. These modifications ensured the design intent could be fully realized while maintaining the integrity of the building.

Throughout the project, communication between the client, design team, engineers, and field staff remained consistent and collaborative. The result is a one-of-a-kind flagship that establishes SKIN1004’s presence in the U.S. market while showcasing the complex architectural, lighting, and millwork elements that define the brand’s new retail concept.
