Target, one of America’s largest retailers, is undergoing an ambitious nationwide growth and modernization strategy aimed at significantly increasing sales by 2030. As part of that effort, Schimenti Construction partnered with Target to deliver multiple remodeling projects across the Northeast, including three Connecticut locations, which were executed concurrently from February to May 2025. Each store had similar square footage but varied in scope and size. These remodels are part of Target’s broader initiative to enhance customer experience, support same-day services, and improve operational efficiency in response to shifting consumer trends.

The remodels included work in several Connecticut locations, including Waterbury (60,043 SF remodeled), Windsor (112,250 SF remodeled), and Lisbon (6,172 SF remodeled), with all projects running on a 14-week schedule. While scopes differed by location, each remodel required detailed phasing and coordination to keep stores operational during the construction process. Upgrades included back-of-house work, fixture resets, MEP modifications, and updated finishes across key departments.

A significant challenge across all three locations was the delay in owner-supplied materials, which impacted the overall schedule. Schimenti progressed through several phases of construction without the necessary materials in place, which led to coordinated rework in areas previously turned over.

Despite these hurdles, communication with Target remained strong throughout the process. The client team was consistent and collaborative, helping troubleshoot material delivery issues and staying responsive to shifting timelines. Through ongoing coordination and field-level problem solving, Schimenti successfully navigated the complexities of each build, continuing its trusted partnership with Target as the brand accelerates its nationwide expansion.
