Schimenti Construction partnered with Home Depot to transform a massive 200,000+ square-foot space in Midtown Manhattan into a unique multi-level retail location. Originally planned as a landlord preparation project to meet the client’s lease requirements, the scope quickly expanded to include a full interior build-out and custom finishes. This evolution required the construction team to adapt to the building’s structural needs and Home Depot’s brand specifications.

The project spanned three years, with periods of pause and re-planning, including a year-long delay before construction resumed with updated plans. Even with these interruptions, Schimenti delivered the project ahead of schedule. Significant structural enhancements were required, including reinforcing floors to double their load capacity and extending two freight elevator shafts into bedrock, a task that involved continuous water removal to keep the site dry.

This multi-level setup brought challenges, requiring custom systems and controls to support Home Depot’s operational needs across multiple floors. The project also involved coordination across multiple budget sources and approvals. Through it all, Schimenti’s dedicated team maintained progress, tracking tasks in careful detail and holding certain phases until final approvals were received.

Schimenti’s commitment to open communication and proactive problem-solving was essential to the project’s success. Their flexibility and focus on delivering quality resulted in a multi-level Home Depot location seamlessly integrating into its urban setting, standing out as a prominent space in Midtown Manhattan.
