Fashion designer Tory Burch partnered with creative visionary Humberto Leon of Opening Ceremony to launch a new concept store in Los Angeles. Schimenti was commissioned to build both locations: this temporary pop-up concept store and the flagship store on Rodeo Drive, which is currently under construction.
The project involved managing a tight construction schedule, remodeling the interiors, and installing new lights, carpets, paint, wallpaper, and floating shelves. The store is adorned with abstract artwork by German photographer Walter Schels. It showcases black-and-white portraits of cats caught mid-meow on its interior and mice on its exterior.
The store was built in under four weeks to accommodate Burch’s star-studded grand opening party in January. In keeping with the cat theme and Burch’s use of texture in her Resort 2024 collection, the store’s finishes feature unique elements, including floor-to-ceiling shag carpeting inspired by a cat climbing tree, custom wallpaper, and ceramic vases that look like oversized strawberries. The result is a successful build with a playful sensory overload of textures, fixtures, and animal prints.
