Highlights from Construction Safety Week 2026

By May 14, 2026People, Practice

At Schimenti, safety is our #1 priority and remains at the center of everything we do across our job sites, offices, and project teams. Throughout Construction Safety Week 2026, our teams came together to reinforce the importance of recognizing hazards, responding proactively, and respecting the plans and people that help keep every environment safe.

This year’s national theme, All In Together: Recognize. Respond. Respect., guided conversations and activities throughout the week, from stand-downs and safety demonstrations to educational sessions and employee engagement initiatives. Alongside Matthew Gerstung’s welcome message to kick off the week, Schimenti also released its 2026 Corporate Health & Safety video, filmed at an active project site in The Bronx, highlighting the communication, accountability, and teamwork that continue to strengthen our safety culture every day.

Here’s a recap of Safety Week 2026 at Schimenti:

Matthew Gerstung Welcome Message

At Schimenti, safety doesn’t sit with one team or one title. It belongs to all of us. It shows up in the decisions we make, the conversations we have, and the way we hold each other accountable. That’s what keeps our culture strong and allows us to keep raising the bar. Safety Week may amplify the message, but the tenets of our program and the well-being of our workers remain a constant focus year-round.

– Matthew Gerstung, Director of Corporate Safety

The team shared their perspectives on the week’s themes

Throughout the week, employees from across the company shared their thoughts on this year’s Safety Week themes and the importance of recognizing hazards, responding proactively, and respecting the plans and procedures that keep teams safe. These shared perspectives highlighted the collaboration and accountability that continue to strengthen Schimenti’s safety culture.

Daily stand-downs were held across our active job sites

Executive stand-downs were conducted throughout the week at active project sites across Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island, The Bronx, East Meadow, NY, Paramus, NJ, Greenwich, CT, Braintree, MA, and additional locations throughout the region. Leadership teams engaged directly with field teams and trade partners through toolbox talks and on-site conversations focused on high-risk work, hazard awareness, preventive planning, and reinforcing the shared responsibility of every individual in maintaining a safe job site.

Industry partners Milwaukee Tool, Werner Co., and MGF also joined Schimenti teams on-site to conduct demonstrations and safety education sessions centered around fall protection, safe work practices, and hazard recognition.

Company-wide focus on Mental Health and Wellness

As part of this year’s initiatives, Schimenti hosted a Mental Health Seminar featuring Laura Payack of the New York State Office of Mental Health, available both in person and via Zoom. The session reinforced the importance of supporting mental wellness as part of maintaining a strong and healthy safety culture.

We brought a sense of competition to our teams and their families

Company-wide activities once again encouraged participation beyond the field. The Children’s Coloring Contest and Safety Snapshot Contest highlighted the importance of safety both on and off the job site while bringing employees and their families into the conversation. Voting and recognition activities throughout the week helped reinforce the shared commitment that drives Schimenti’s safety culture forward.

Thank you for your commitment to working safe every day

Thank you to everyone who participated in Safety Week 2026 and continues to make safety a priority every day. Your awareness, accountability, and commitment help strengthen our culture and ensure that everyone goes home safe.
