Zara

  • Zara, one of the world’s leading fashion retailers, selected Schimenti Construction to build its new flagship store at 666 Fifth Avenue. Zara’s largest US store, at approximately 39,000 square-feet, is located in a symbolic Manhattan building, the former NBA store. Schimenti was tasked with challenging demolition and structural work which included lowering the second floor to provide a higher ceiling and installing new steel beams. In addition to two above ground sales floors, the store features a 20,000 square-foot lower level sales floor. Once the structural work was completed, Schimenti constructed a new exterior facade, which required extensive glazing, a pre-cast stone structure and installation of extra large windows, giving the store an exciting and dramatic storefront. New elevators and escalators were also installed.

  • “Along the way, our team overcame many difficult challenges including coordination with DOT, a full structural facade installation, and design / build of an extensive HVAC system. Many unique materials were sourced from Spain, where Zara is based, to give them just the look they wanted.”
