Hall des Lumières Opens in New York City
49 Chambers St. New York, NY

Hall des Lumières is an immersive public art experience located in the former Emigrant Industrial Savings Bank, a New York City Historic Landmark Building.

Schimenti provided construction management services, including the careful restoration of the existing space, interior marble, columns, original bank tellers, stained glass windows, and sculptures — which serve as a multi-sensory backdrop to this unique public art space. This state-of-the-art space creates an immersive creative outlet for visitors and the local community.

We’re Experts in the Restoration of Landmark Buildings
The project team included design studio Woods Bagot New York, Schimenti Construction Company, Culturespaces, a French design group that specializes in the adaptive reuse of historic buildings into video-powered canvases, and IMG, a global sports, entertainment, and media company. Schimenti performed a comprehensive preconstruction phase with 3D scans and BIM coordination to mitigate any risk to the existing structure.

Our expert team carefully restored the interior marble, columns, original bank tellers, stained glass windows, and sculptures — while coordinating different specialty vendors under ICR/ICC (glass, metals, stone, plaster, stained glass, paint) — achieving $800k in Value Engineering.

Schimenti identified historic renovation opportunities – old and new – as this particular build required careful coordination of permitting and detailed restoration while integrating the latest in technology, building systems, and audiovisual equipment.
