We are proud to announce that Angela Phillips, Senior Operations Manager, Estimating at Schimenti, has been appointed as the President on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC)’s Hartford chapter for the 2023-2024 year.
NAWIC, founded in 1953, originated as Women in Construction of Fort Worth, Texas. It was established by sixteen women working in the construction industry. Recognizing that women represented only a small fraction of the construction industry, these pioneers organized NAWIC to create a support network for women in this male-dominated field. Today, NAWIC, based in Fort Worth, boasts over 115 chapters throughout the United States. The association provides its members with opportunities for professional development, education, networking, leadership training, public service, and more. NAWIC’s core purpose is to strengthen and amplify the success of women in the construction industry, and it remains committed to championing women to impact the direction of the construction sector.
Angela has been involved with NAWIC’s Hartford Chapter since March of 2021. In October of 2021, she became a Director on the Hartford chapter’s Board, and in October of 2022 she became Secretary of the Hartford chapter’s Board for NAWIC’s 2022-2023 year. She was approached in summer of 2023 about taking on the President position for NAWIC’s 2023-2024 year, and gladly accepted.
“I first learned about NAWIC during Women in Construction Week in March of 2021, and became a member that same month,” said Angela. “Their networking opportunities and webinars are great ways to connect with other women in the construction industry and learn new skills for both personal and professional development. I have also attended a variety of conferences through NAWIC, including the 2022 National Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota as well as smaller forums in various locations throughout the Northeast – the guest speakers and break-out sessions at each have been very inspiring and full of knowledge.”
